San Bernardino County pre-foreclosure

Where San Bernardino County records the notices
San Bernardino records these notices at only two offices, the Hall of Records in San Bernardino and the High Desert Government Center in Hesperia; its other regional offices across the valley, the High Desert, the mountains and the Morongo Basin are assessor offices only. The online Official Records index reaches back to 1925 but is an index only: it shows that a Notice of Default was recorded, and the document itself can be viewed only in person at one of those two offices.
What the county tells the owner
On April 2, 2026 the county warned the public that a fraudulent website was impersonating its Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk, and told residents to use only the real site, arc.sbcounty.gov, for accurate information. For an owner who has just had a Notice of Default recorded against their home, that warning is part of the background to any call about it.
The housing behind the notices
The Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 American Community Survey counted 743,886 homes in San Bernardino County. The median owner-occupied home was valued at $505,000, below Riverside County’s $557,300 in the same survey, 62 percent of occupied homes were lived in by their owners, and the median home was built in 1983.
What to do differently here
Because the recorded document can only be read in person, the online index tells you little more than that a notice exists. Work from the owner and property details rather than the index line, and when you mention the notice, point the owner to where the public record lives, the county’s own site, so they can check you are not the kind of fraud the county has warned them about.
